why i care

Want to know why I care so much about connecting you to your body?

Here’s why.

I believe your body holds wisdom that is essential for creating the world we all deserve to live in – you know, where no one must hustle or compete to meet their basic needs, where all bodies are deemed valuable and every being has ample space for rest and ease.

My intention is not that this sounds like a lot of pressure, but I do get it if holding such power makes you feel a little anxious.

There was a time in my own life where I couldn’t think about the future without feeling a deep sense of responsibility, urgency and overwhelm. The general tone was that I simply wasn’t doing enough.

Because that mind of mine is oh-so-smart, I even made myself wrong for feeling I was wrong. I wasn’t going to buy into the capitalistic paradigm that measured my worth by my productivity.

And yet, through my actions I was.

My relationship to my feelings (and hence my body) mirrored my relationship to the larger world. Everything was a problem to be “fixed.” And if I was diligent enough, I could “succeed.” Or, so my mind thought.

The truth is, no one person can transform systemic injustice. It will take many bodies moving collaboratively to bring about the more liberated world we dream of. What we can do, is play our part.

For bodies of the global majority (that’s Black and brown folks) I believe that means focusing on what we’re saying yes to rather than fixating on what’s broken.

Can you feel the difference between wanting to stop feeling rushed versus wanting instead to be present? Or wanting to stop a hurtful community dynamic versus wanting instead for understanding?

This shift in focus is made possible by shifting our relationship to our own body. What we create externally, starts with what we embody internally.

The world we deserve to live in can only be created when we build from this place.

I get why it may feel like a lot to step in to.

It’s risky to let ourselves feel and trust our bodies. Everything tells us that this is wrong. And yet, when we follow the yes that lives in us, and when engage with others from this place, we embody in real time the liberation we dream of.

We can create the world we deserve to live in. Saying yes to the spark of aliveness that lives below our head day after day is how we’ll get there.
